So Many Trips. So Many Guests.

I want to set the record straight that I have tried to blog about five times since I last posted, but our stream wasn't working and I didn't want to blog enough to fix it.

Anyway...

It's back and I'm back, so get ready for some blogging gold.

Like the title of this post states, we have been busy.

Here is a list of guests

Yeah, it's a screen shot.  Don't you hate it when you get this angle in a photo?  You're sitting to the side with an awkward and unflattering twist? 

Tyler and Erika Hanks.

Two of our favorites.

They were catching an Alaskan Cruise and stayed with us for a night.  We went to this awesome, expensive restaurant.  The problem was that the portions were tiny, so you better believe we went and got burgers and shakes afterwords. 

A few days later, I got a phone call around 10:00 PM from TJ's sister Sydney and her boyfriend Dallas, telling me that they were an hour out of Seattle and were going to stay with us for the weekend.

After the initial "holy crap, my house is a wreck" moment, I got my shiz together and started cleaning my house.

We had a great weekend getting to know Dallas and having so much fun.

We were able to get them into the Amazon Family Picnic.

It's not the kind of picnic you're thinking of.

When Amazon does a picnic, they go all out.

They have a "picnic" in Seahawks Stadium on their Astroturf or whatever that football grass stuff is called.

This was the slide where my skirt came completely up while I jumped down it.
It was a proud moment for all of us.

When Amazon does something, they do it right.

My Parents came in town the next weekend and I think that deserves a post all it's own.

We also went camping twice in the middle of all of this.

I'm tired just thinking about everything we have done it.

Seattle in the summer is the best.

Nerd Alert

This was a big week for TJ.

The first time I visited him down in San Diego, when we were dating, he told me about this magical place where people can nerd out and nobody cares.

It's actually welcomed.

Yes friends, we are talking about Comic-Con.  A time when seeing this guy walk down the streets of San Diego

Is totally normal.

TJ got to go because he is a Vendor Manager for the books team at Amazon and a few of his publishers where there.

The funny thing about this photo is that he is trying to not act too excited in front of his co workers.
I know better.

Since I have known TJ, he has wanted to go to Comic-Con.  He has tried to get tickets to go with his friends, but they were never able to get them.

So when he came home one night and told me that he was going to have to go on a business trip to Comic-Con, he was pretty excited.

One of the reasons I love TJ so much is that he is a total nerd at heart.  He loves sci-fi and always tries to get me to go to those movies with him.  

Good thing Benedict Cumberbatch was in the new Star Trek movie because that's the only reason why I went.

HELLO!

The one thing that I was super jealous of was that he met the Walking Dead's creator.

And got to go to The Walking Dead's After Party.

The best part is that when TJ would be posting these photos, I would see them at one in the morning while I was folding laundry, listening for murderers scratching at my door.

You could say that they loved them

All joking aside, TJ and I were talking about Comic-Con and we think that the people who get really into it are pretty awesome.

They don't follow the social "norm" of what's cool.  They love this stuff and they've found other people who love it too and it makes them happy.  

I wish I could be more like that.

So go ahead people, get your nerd on!

Steve and Shelley Take Seattle

We love having guests.

We love it so much that when we were deciding whether we should move to Arkansas for Walmart or Seattle for Amazon, one of the main reasons why we moved to Seattle was that people would actually want to visit us.

People like Steve and Shelley

Steve and Shelley are TJ's Uncle and Aunt.

They came to Seattle to jump on a cruise to Alaska and came a couple of days early to hang out with us.

One of my favorite reasons to have guests is that I appreciate Seattle again.

I always love Seattle, but when you live here, you kind of take how cool it is for granted.

So we did the whole tourist thing with them.

We went on an Argosy Harbor Cruise with them (last time we did one of these we had only lived here for two days)

The classic "Photo of a Photo" move.  No one will ever know.

 went to Pike Place and checked out the Ballard Locks.

The other cool part?

Steve and Shelley are Grandparents to twin two year olds too, so they know what they're doing!

Our boys had so much fun with them!

They brought them presents from Salt Lake, read them stories and played at parks.

We kind of adopted them as Grandparents for the weekend (sorry Mom and Dad)

We love you Steve and Shelley!

We're So Outdoorsy

This last weekend we decided to go up to Mount Rainier and hike around a bit.

It was incredible!

Our first stop was Sunrise Lodge.

 We needed to fuel up.

These boys had a lot of work ahead of them.

Careful.   Don't pull a muscle, buddy.

It had been awhile since I had carried one of them on a hike (missed you Ralph and Jenny) so it was a little bit of a surprise when I first put all 30 pounds of Win on.

Way to be chubby, Win.

On we went to the Sourdough Ridge Trail which was not only a gorgeous hike, but it made me want some sourdough bread.

Weird, I know.

Anyway, the hike was beautiful and a little slippery with snow (I only biffed it once.  It was more ugly than dangerous.  Win laughed.  So did the guy behind me.)

It looked fake.

Like we were in front of a green screen.

After that hike we got in the car and headed back down the mountain to another hike.

Stopped for this photo pop, but the boys were not having it.

The place that we went for our second hike was called The Grove of the Patriarchs.  

It is an area that has some of the oldest trees in Washington.

They were no Redwoods, but they were a close second.

The boys loved it.

We loved it.

It was a perfect way to finish off our 4th of July Weekend.

USA! USA! USA!

If you don't like the 4th of July than you hate America.

It's as simple as that.

Ok, maybe that's a little steep because around 2:00 the next morning, when someone lighting off fireworks in the cemetery across the street launch a bottle rocket into our neighbors car and their alarm goes off, I hate the 4th of July.

But let's go back to a simpler time.

On the Ferry to Bainbridge

We decided to spend the 4th on Bainbridge Island.  It's always fun to live and play in a big city, but when it comes to the 4th of July, a small town is where it's at.

The first thing we did when we got there was walk through the food booths to scout out what we wanted for lunch.

For people that eat Gluten Free like us, it was not an easy task.

I settled on some Indian food while TJ went for the Hawaiian BBQ.  The boys had a mixture of both.

There was an awesome classic car show

And then we were on our way to the parade

After the parade, we were on our way back to the Main Land to see fireworks over Lake Union.

We went to Bhy Kracke Park (no really, that's what it's called) and waited for the big show.

TJ and I passed the time singing our favorite patriotic songs and that quickly turned to singing every Neil Diamond song we knew.

About 5 minutes after the fireworks were supposed to start, we heard someone say "hey, the fireworks are over there!"

Instead of firing them off on the usual barge in the middle of the lake, they decided to shoot them off AT Gasworks Park and no one in our park could see them!!

So we all packed our blankets and drove home.

On our way home, with two sleeping bears in the backseat, we watched what we could see by our house in our car

They were beautiful.  

I can't imagine how gorgeous they were up close.
